I have always liked numbers for a simple reason. They are either right or they are wrong, with no gray area to argue about. That clarity drew me toward finance in college, and the longer I have worked in the industry, the more I have come to appreciate how much there always is to learn. It rarely gets boring.
I came to Yoder Financial Group the way a lot of good things happen around here, through a referral from one of Jeff Yoder's clients. That was seventeen years ago, and I have been here ever since. I handle much of the life insurance side for our advisors and help clients with their investment needs as well. On a given day, that might mean taking applications, working with carriers to get policies underwritten and set up correctly, coordinating medical exams and records, and processing exchanges, along with fielding whatever questions clients bring in. I also keep the books and payroll running behind the scenes.
The part of this job I find most rewarding is watching the same quiet pattern repeat over the years. Ordinary savers commit to paying themselves first and slowly grow into confident investors. The harder days carry their own meaning too. When a client passes away, handling the claim well is some of the most important work I do, since it lifts a heavy task off a grieving family and lets them focus on each other.
Away from the office, I live on a farm in Douglass with my husband, our two boys, and a lively mix of dogs, cats, cattle, and chickens. I grew up in Wichita and still drive into the city for work, but the quiet at the end of the country road is my favorite part of the day. Weekends belong to the outdoors, usually camping, boating, or fishing, and our camping group keeps up traditions I look forward to all year, from a Memorial Day mud run on the four-wheelers to a Halloween costume campout for the whole family. I take an annual trip with my mom and sister; our family loves the national parks, and Glacier is the favorite so far after a twenty-four-mile stretch of hiking. Last year I ran my first 5K, which surprised no one more than me.
